Welcome to the University of Huddersfield Mountaineering Society.

Our members participate in all styles of climbing, walking and mountaineering and we get outside whenever possible. Plus with our location, we are in the fortunate position of being less than a couple of hours away from some of the best climbing in the country, with the Peak District, Yorkshire Grit and Limestone close at hand we are able to regularily get out on day trips.

Our society is open to members of all abilities and we are able to provide subsidised instruction on the basic safety techniques to all members who require it. We meet regularly at Rokt climbing wall, but the introduction of a new registration system over the last year means that all users of the wall must now be registered as competent. As a society we are able to help you get the training required to meet the standard required by the wall.

Whilst we are geared up for novices to join the club and learn the basic skills, we also have a number of skilled climbers who climb at a high level and are always looking for other climbers to come and push their boundaries. If you have been climbing before then please come down and join us.

As active as we are as a club we also like to take time and reflect on others experiences and skills. As such we regularily host lectures by people famous in their field. Over the past couple of years we have hosted lectures by Simon Yates, Jim Curran, Johnny Dawes and Sandra Noel. All of which have been a success and raised some much needed funds for the club.

I hope this has given you a flavour of what the Mountaineering society gets upto. Please feel free to browse our website to find out more about us.
